Last Bus to Reno

Waitin' on the last bus to Reno
out here in these long rusty hills
ponies run wild as ghost-shirt Lakotas.
There's a stillness out here, alone
the moon is restless in its own vacant lot
there's just nowhere for it to go
it's lookin' for me to give up all I know
but there ain't even room enough for what I forgot.
Lakota ponies race over the ridge
with no riders, faster than memories
come calling, swifter than a lance
to my heart with all our old stories.
I remember, then I try not to remember
everything and everywhere the two of us sang,
you on the hood of that '41 Ford coupe,
I thought if it was the last ride, I'd go.
Why you had to be so beautiful, why
I never made room for your dreams,
questions come down with the whole sky,
I just can't tell exactly what it means.
Maybe in Reno, my buddy keeps tellin' me,
maybe there you'll hit the right combination
but streets, empty parking lots and the night
don't seem too friendly or full of promise
to help set it right.
Questions come down, with the whole sky,
in a strange language I've never been taught
but there ain't even room enough for what I forgot.
Lakota ponies race over the ridge
with no riders, faster than memories
of all our old stories.

Now this makes sense , with avoiding the poetry you usually rely on to get a point across
Sounds good

Did you get the audio? Because it's dead on SoundCloud.

I've heard it before from a past recoding you posted , I lose my keys and can't find them , But seem to remember songs for some reason . You seem to have a lot of problems with Sound Cloud for some reason on dead links

you posted it in 2023. The link is still broken that you posted in 23 on SongStuff site
Your site only goes back one year on songs

Afraid I couldn't get to the audio, but I love the lyric!
To me this is still very poetic, and beautifully so! Really vivid and visual. I love lines like:
the moon is restless in its own vacant lot
there's just nowhere for it to go
Wonderful nostalgic, melancholic mood.
I enjoyed it very much.

Couldn't hear it either. I think every verse is its own entity, all good. Some excellent imagery and insights.
I'd like to hear it with music to see how it pulls together.
But we have a writer here!0 -
Thanks- My Soundcloud link maxed out so I've got to cut a new track pronto.

Ahh the biggest little city on the planet. Man this one seems very personal to you. Love the sneaky harp. And I always like your unique style and stories. Yeah buddy Reno, play the cards, just don't bet too much on love.

@RCJames - Just heard it. It has a quaint charm of the Classic songwriting era. I have heard a lot of songs like that in this forum. I certainly appreciate this style more and more now, or If I may say that I have rekindled my appreciation for this narrative style of songwriting. Thanks for sharing. There is a particular line that kind of stood out for me:
the moon is restless in its own vacant lot
there's just nowhere for it to go
{{{it's lookin' for me to give up all I know}}} The restless moon is looking for me to give up all I know as If its restlessness is mirrored in my own thoughts and t he best thing for me to do would be to drop those thoughts and discover myself in the moment spontaneously :)
That's the thing about this style of songwriting, it is so poetic. Not too many people write good poetry now, it's full of adulterated words and imagery. Would hear more of your work.
Thanks,
Arnab

Thanks very much for your comment and the biting analysis of the moon passage.
