Sterile Halls
Lyrics - me; Music Suno
https://suno.com/s/gCbyXokicx1yx63A
[Verse 1]
Today are the same todays, as all days
My humanity's seemingly gone, robotic
Gliding down emotionless, sterile halls
To a room, a soul, now purely symbolic
[Verse 2]
The object before me, seems foreign
She's not the person I once knew
This object before me, is not she
Her essence, somewhere else flew
[Chorus]
Eyes of cloudy white sunken back
Fingers and lips are blueish black
Skin cold and ashen ghostly pale
Crystalized breath on every exhale
[Verse 3]
She's fighting through hunger pains
Stroke throat paralysis cannot feed
The docs want a tube, her eyes say no
A split-second choice, which to heed
[Verse 4]
Tube inserted, and her body responds
But not in the way everybody expected
Fueling undiscovered massive ulcers
Leaving myself, the staff, dejected
[Chorus]
Eyes of cloudy white sunken back
Fingers and lips are blueish black
Skin cold and ashen ghostly pale
Crystalized breath on every exhale
[Verse 5]
First bout at three, six then nine
White sheet fill with browns and reds
Pulse spikes, blood pressure drops
Passing phases of being alive and dead
[Verse 6]
The docs said they can make her whole
But the time is now, no time to wait
At that moment, should have let her go
In the doc's hands, I let decide her fate
[Chorus]
Eyes of cloudy white sunken back
Fingers and lips are blueish black
Skin cold and ashen ghostly pale
Crystalized breath on every exhale
[Outro]
Today are not the same todays, this is a new day
But not a glorious new day, no, it's surreal
I made a vow to be with her until the end
I watched as they cleaned and prepped her
Put her in a bag, and cart her away, forever
Down the same emotionless, sterile halls
I somberly walk down, now for the final time.

It does... and if one of the lurkers reading this, if this helps them too, then it's a win-win :)

very decent of you Bill, doubt I'd be so magnanimous. The song is very graphic but it needs to be, you've captured the cruel sterility of the place and people, the inevitability and distance of decisions made. Promises that come back to haunt us.
A cold and calculating piece that draws you in to places you don't want to go.
Exceptional writing and clever use of descriptive phrases and words.

Yes it is kinda dark and hopeless. It sounds like Chris Daughtry a bit.
I generally tune out of stuff like this, as I do the news and medical and detective shows. But it's good for what it's trying to accomplish.
Track sounds good!0 -

@bhengen darkness leaves speechlessness.
Well done both lyrically and musically on a dreadful topic,

Oh wow Bill. How do you even attempt such a thing? It's horrific, and that's exactly how it should be.

Thanks for the comment owen. Sadly, life can be horrific. this is the sanitized version. hopefully this will inspire others to open themselves up.

Wow, Bill, Great write. I was caregiver for both my mom and dad. both had Alzheimer's. So, this really hits home with me. Thanks for sharing

Thanks mora, I really appreciate it:)

Thanks Cove, that's rough. I can't imagine what you went through having both parents. Caregiving as a thankless job.

This is so good :) The melodious yet evocative vocal delivery perfectly captures the melancholy of the situation. Great singing and arrangements. Is this song there on Spotify or YouTube?

very hard hitting song, some parts of it felt like sounds and textures from the "Operation Mindcrime" album by Queensryche, not as heavy in sound, but the vibe

There's a blast from the past. Haven't heard queensryche in decades. Thanks for the comparison. quite the compliment :)
