The List - Slightly rude imagery.

An old song from a 20 minute medley from about 5-10 years ago that I always knew I would go back to flesh out. Now was the time. I feel this is the 'median' The Corking Crack Band sound from my 40 plus albums. Its a bit pop-y, a bit expansive, seemingly silly lyrically with a deeper message within. In short, it's the sort of song I feel would be a good one to say 'this' when someone asks what sort of music I write. You guys and gals may have had a slightly skewed view of my output from my recent concept album but I'm not always a pretentious tit.   J/K

The List

I got a trowel

And I got a towel

I got a lisp that means I struggle around my vowels

I know that…

I got some CDs

I've had two babies

I've got a dog and he ain’t ever contracted rabies

So,

You may say that the worst is yet to come

That it’s a bomb every time that you hear a hum

If there’s a ticking, then it’s the ebbing of your life

I got a disease

And I’ve got two knees

I’ve got a nose that makes a huge noise when I sneeze

you know?

I’ve got a garden

Sometimes a hard-on

I’ve got some habits, mean, I’m always saying pardon

I’ve got toothpaste

a bin for the waste

I got chocolate cos I can’t get enough of the taste

You ask for something

Please give you something

Well boy you know here’s something you missed

Through all the pain

Oh I feel your pain

But boy I’m gonna write you a list

Yeah, boy, I’m going to write you a list

But you say our time is near its end

When there’s a corner you say it’s too sharp a bend

You need to know it’s nothing you should fear.

I got a cock

And I gotta sock

I gotta nice mantelpiece with candles and a clock

I gotta cool sofa

I used to have a loafer

I got a puppet that I think is Gordon the Gopher

I got a new phone

And I got a loan

I got a wife who never misses a chance moan

Well

You may say that our dreams are not enough

And the world will be kindest on the tough

But then you’d miss the beauty right under your nose

  • Cool song, CCB. The music is in a style that I didn't expect from you, but in a good way. Interesting lyrics, good vocals, and clear production! I enjoyed listening! Nice work! 😀

    Hola @CorkingCrackBand

    Buenos días!!

You have a style that knows how to play with depth through humor, in a certain sense.

Lyrics are really descriptive. Everything you have is normal hahaha and what you don't have too!!!

I've had a great time with your song, it's happy, it's strong and it's catchy. The effect? in the voice it gives it a special color that combines well with the general sense of the arrangement.

The instrumental parts have, for me, joy and ease and I think that makes those of us who listen to this work clap our hands.

  • I am forever buoyed by your appreciation of the vocal effect @MoraAmaroLaLoba - very few like it. 🤣 I like it also, so I'll use it when I feel it works. 👍️ It's partly because I don't like my own voice so it's nice to hear my music and momentarily not recognise myself as the singer. I also like it because it sounds pleasingly other and gives an odd feel to the songs, to my ears - I fully appreciate that some just hear an annoying auto tune effect that they wish I wouldn't use. 🤣 Ultimately, these songs will be listened to once or twice by such people whereas I'll hear my music, on and off, until the day I die, so I'll favour my own taste and preferences.

Thanks @ElvisNash and @icystorm for listening. I'm always happy to surprise. The piano bass, I feel, gives the song a strong momentum and beat that covers a multitude of other sins contained within. 😁

  • What a wonderful song!!! Just wonderful! Amazing production...just sounds awesome!

Also, I'm stealing this quote from you:

"Ultimately, these songs will be listened to once or twice by such people whereas I'll hear my music, on and off, until the day I die, so I'll favour my own taste and preferences."

  • Thanks so much @jrandolph - I can't ask for a more positive review than that. Thanks for listening and commenting. 👍️

You're welcome to the quote, just be sure to type it as:

"Ultimately, these songs will be listened to once or twice by such people whereas I'll hear my music, on and off, until the day I die, so I'll favour my own taste and preferences." - The Corking Crack Band, the greatest living band in his own house. 🤣

  • Rap makes you sound like a choir boy on they're lyrics

  • Oh I can and have written/sung much worse language and themes but I know this board is family friendly so tried to give fair warning of the imagery. 👍️

Thats nothing lol , Some songs and comedians you need therapy after hearing them

  • Nice. Has Beatle-like orchestration and a ELO feel........Jeff Lynne would be proud. Random pieces of everyday life strung together in a list that nearly everyone can identify with. Well done.

  • Theatrical awesomeness! The style reminds me a bit of the musical 'Hair', but I am sure there are better comparisons. I am not sure what the theme of this musical would be ;) I love the melodies and the energy. The lyrics are interesting with some amusing spots of humor. Super fun tune through and through.

  • Hi @BucMcMaster

I'll take Beatles comparison's on day long. 👍️Thanks

I'm glad this one tickled your fancy @Andrea - I'm eclectic if nothing else! 🤣

    Thanks for listening and commenting.

  • if the Beatles started today , they'd be all over auotune

The way the music business is these days I think they'd struggle to make it out of Liverpool. That said, they were a good looking bunch and knew how to string a few notes together...

Well everybody who bought a guitar and a home studio is on the net trying to be a star man , That's why you have a million rip off companies on 400 bucks to get you on Spotify lists . Lotta BS.

  • So you have millions of artists fighting for a spot on the net

Phooey to social media and streaming. Hit the open mics in your town. Find out if people actually like your songs. It's not that hard to write a song. But can you be memorable and have something to say. No one cares about your songs when they can just stream a million better songs.
