Watched a mini-series on John Gotti, wondered what it would be like to live next door to his family. There goes the neighbourhood!
[verse 1]
Tomorrow, I'll go for a walk, but I won't be comin' back.
Leave a world of colours and sounds, into one that's black.
The jury found me guilty, based on what I said,
only I know the truth, and it's stayin' inside my head.
[verse 2]
Mary and I grew up together, lived next door for years.
Shared our dreams and secrets, all our goals and fears.
Her father was a drinkin' man, too quick with his fists,
Mary had cuts on her eye, and bruises on her wrists.
[chorus]
I couldn't stand it any more, my Mary being hurt,
I'd protect her with my life, if that's what it takes.
Nothing's gonna harm her, not a hair on her head,
I couldn't bear to lose her, for both of our sakes.
[verse 3]
I could hear the cries of pain, from my room next door,
burstin' in their house, I saw her Pa lyin' on the floor.
Blood was everywhere, a knife wound to his chest,
Mary's dress was torn, I figured out all the rest.
[chorus]
I couldn't stand it any more, my Mary being hurt,
I'd protect her with my life, if that's what it takes.
Nothing's gonna harm her, not a hair on her head,
I couldn't bear to lose her, for both of our sakes.
[verse 4]
Her dad was Mafiosa, so someone was going to pay,
I told her to get cleaned up, and do exactly as I say.
Wiped the knife, pulled it out, put blood all over me,
told the cops we fought, when he saw I beat up Mary.
[bridge]
Mary swore she killed him, I said that she was crazy,
Just another love-torn kid, blindly in love with me.
[chorus]
I couldn't stand it any more, my Mary being hurt,
I'd protect her with my life, if that's what it takes.
Nothing's gonna harm her, not a hair on her head,
I couldn't bear to lose her, for both of our sakes.
[outro]
Nothing's gonna harm her, not a hair on her head,
I couldn't bear to lose her, for both of our sakes.
I couldn't bear to lose her, for both of our sakes.

@sidshovel - these are great lyrics. I like the flow. my only issue is that if you are going to write a song about an American, then it's colors and not colours, but that's splitting hairs ;)

No intention of desecrating the Kings English for you lazy bunch of layabouts, colors indeed!
You say: Toe may toes.

Strong story Sid! I like the lyric.
But I have to say I hate what the AI did to the music. The tone feels all wrong to me, too upbeat, and the prosody is just all over the place.
Should it be mafioso for a male rather than mafiosa?
Maybe "I'll go for a walk" → "I'll take a walk"?

@sidshovel - I need a tissue. Wow, wow...so emotional but I love it. You told the story so well and it was vivid as if I was standing there.
I agree with @RainyDayMan - The cadence was a little off, but the story was so powerful that I overlooked it.
The storytelling is A++
Thank you for sharing and I can't wait to hear more.

BTW, Sid told me he's having trouble posting comments at the moment, so don't take it wrong if there's a delay in any response from him

@RainyDayMan, @TammyB, @ElvisNash,
Thank you all for your highly constructive feedback, always appreciated.
I'm inclined to agree with the comments re the cadence. Both that it's way off in parts but I, like Elvis and Tammy, have a tendency to ignore it.
I'm a big fan of Tom Waits, so cadence doesn't always come high on my agenda, though I acknowledge its importance.
My apologies for the late responses, I have had a few hiccups posting comments.

its 3/4 quarter time is why . The Suno singer still sings on the down beat
