Climbing up the gangway, we’d said goodbye for the very last time

She waved me off under a shepherd’s sky, it was enough to make a grown man cry

Along the river deep n wide, our love it cannot be denied

As my ship sailed out to sea, my heart’s still beatin’ for her and me

I saw the Liberty Bell, when my ship came in man I felt like hell

But she took a plane, first class as well, and straight into her arms I fell

Got a hotel near Broadway, the things we did, well I just can’t tell
