At one point in the song the name Lucy comes up. That was the character’s original name.
I left the mistake in to save you money! ;)
If the person who this song is about is on this forum, it’s not about her.
(1)missy never quite fit in on her family’s farm
She figured that rebelling wouldn’t do her any harm
All the other local girls never were a fan of her curly hair and turned up nose and total lack of tan
She swiped an old guitar, from her boyfriend’s dad. Everybody was amazed by the skill she had
She wrote lyrics in a notebook filled it in a week and started dressing to be sure everybody got a peek
(2) missy jones made damn sure the town all knew her name. She gave the finger to the world and the world it did the same. All the girls were jealous cause she just didn’t care. And all the boys could do was stand and stare.
(1)By the time I met her she wasn’t very far from a path of self destruction or a superstar. We split a gallon jug of wine on a Tuesday night. She told me that I loved her, she probably was right
But once the summer ended missy just got bored. I was working a career and she wouldn’t be ignored. She told me it was over, I insisted she was wrong. But she just had to move on and I couldn’t come along
(2)missy jones broke my heart but it was for the best, she knew I couldn’t keep up she knew I had to rest. She left for more excitement that I just couldn’t give. Lucy smith really had to live.
(1) She made it down to Austin to give that scene a try. She changed her name and played her songs and winked with every lie. That woman snorted every line and swallowed every pill. She charmed a slick promoter man and he put her on the bill.
Things were going good for her for a year or 2 but she had to be responsible which she would never do. Soon the calls were drying up she wouldn’t get her turn. It happens when every bridge you cross you cannot help but burn
(2) missy had the talent, missy had the smile
And it seemed to work for her for a little while. But you’ve gotta pay the fiddler and you gotta play the game, it’s a little price for a little fame
(1)She started sinking deeper into drugs and evil men but she wouldn’t take the blame for where it went and where it’s been
Even when she had a kid she lived the same old way. Not knowing who the father was or she wouldn’t say
But it didn’t phase her she really hasn’t changed. I to try to reach out to her once but it couldn’t be arranged.
She lives in a rented house not too far from me. I mustn’t meant that much to her cause she has no memory
(1) She’s home watching her grandkids though she’s 45. Them and cigs and morning Gin are keeping her alive. Some times she’ll tell a story of a better day. Then all the pain she’s feeling now will quickly go away. He skin turns back to alabaster her hair turns back to red, even though he sweet success was only in her head.
Sure she was a liar and her life’s kind of a waste but living life like you and me never was her taste.
(2) She could have been somebody she could have been a star, but confidence and talent won’t take you very far. The world was at her fingertips at least that’s what she’ll say. But she’s the one who threw it all away
Sometimes I still think of her exactly like she was. It’s not like I still love her, It’s likely just because. Me I turned out boring, comfortable and nice, probably cause I was just too scared to try and roll the dice.
Missy had adventures, she’s got tales to tell. She made some very lovely sounds and raised a lot of hell. She packed a lot of living in not a lot of time. Missy thinks just what she thinks - missys doing fine

I like it. A good story, even if it's a well-worn path. It could maybe be condensed a little. It's a bit long at five and a half minutes.

Great story. Lots of detail, and I felt like I was watching events unfold.
Structurally, the song might benefit from a Bridge just to vary things a little more. Maybe the verse where she starts sinking deeper into drugs and evil men could be reworked as this seems to be the turning point in her story.
Melody is good. Love to hear it with a full production!
Nice work.
