Once upon a bar whiskey was on his mind
Life started at happy hour ended closing time
But he gave up the neon lights and joined AA
The twelve steps taking it day by day
Ch
Its the human condition
On all our contradictions
Being home on a barstool
Breaking rules
Rinse repeat with a double shot twist
Back then it all made sense
V2
Once upon a bar she had a one night stand
But her phone went dark and he left her flat
Now she's in church on a blessed Sunday
And she heard the preacher say
Ch
V3
Once upon a bar I was aiming for the stars
But I ran out of road in Dallas sold my guitar
Good years never worried about dollars signs
Just honest songs with better rhymes
ch
Its the human condition
On all my predictions
Being home on a barstool
Breaking rules
Rinse repeat with a double shot twist
Some days it still makes sense
Once upon a bar
Once upon a bar
Once upon a bar

Yep, that works very well.
I don't think it would fit as smoothly in this song, but "Once upon a barstool" would also be a good line.

I get that alot , Are you from the south ? , nope California lol
That structure was stolen from operator Croce
No hook in chorus . I must of heard that song a 1000 times , never noticed how it was laid out before
Thanks

Pretty modern melody and tracks , little to laid back for radio I’d say
Thanks0 -
Nice wistful vibe. A tone of regret in your voice. You do that so well.
Some great lines that say a lot with a few words:
"Life started at happy hour ended closing time"
"But her phone went dark and he left her flat"
Good stuff, Elvis!
