Lets lower the temperature
I have been feeling like there is a lot of low level hostility and irritation on the site at the moment. There was a time when I would have unequivocally called this the friendliest songwriting site on the web. I'm not sure it is right now. But it can be, because it's purely a matter of choice.
The thing I value most on the site is the friendships I've made. I don't recall specific pieces of advice I've received over the years on a given song, but I remember people from 15+ years ago. Having a place to hang out where other people understand what songwriting is like is wonderful! Getting advice on a song can be very helpful, but just feeling part of a community is special by itself.
At its core, I believe we come here and post our songs just to be heard. So that our creative effort is seen and recognized by at least some people. We can all give each other that. If we can help and support each other beyond that, well that's better still!
We are all passionate people, it's what sparks us to create songs. And we pour passion into our songs, and sometimes into the feedback we give others. And there will be times when you are 100% against what someone is passionately trying to argue. But lets keep some perspective. No one here is destroying the world, and no one here is saving it either. Make people your highest priority. I truly believe that one of the best things you can do to improve the world is to show more patience, tolerance and kindness in our everyday lives. I don't mean we should all nod our heads in unison and politely clap something we think is vile. But you can be honest and kind. You can be patient even when you take an opposing stance. You don't have to win every argument - even when you know you are right.
Let's take the temperature down a notch or two. Before you post anything, just consider, will this help? And especially when you are irritated at something or someone, just walk away from the keyboard. If it's important, it will still be important in an hour. And your response will be better for thinking it through. The Gettysburg address wasn't ad-libbed on the spot!
Here endeth the sermon!

That's really well said, very well written and articulated, if more people in the world took your advice, it would be a much better place

@ElvisNash I like being a 'homeless' songwriter without a 'significant other' as I got nobody telling me who, what, why, where, when and how to write my songs, Lol!
But other than that being 'homeless' sucks.....
