TRAVESTY OF LOVE
Ooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh
[Intro]
You told me you were leavin’
I told you just go
You told me you don’t love me anymore
I said, I told you, I told you so
[Chorus]
But that’s love
The travesty of love
That’s love
The travesty of love
And you can’t get enough
It’s never enough, oooh-oooh-oooh
V1
You make excuses
I call your bluff
The lies you tell
Are never good enough
You apologize
Off-the-cuff
Expecting a truce
Sex is rough
[Chorus]
But that’s love
The travesty of love
That’s love
The travesty of love
And you can’t get enough
It’s never, never, never enough, oooh-oooh-oooh
V2
Spent all my money
Took all my time
Dreams in the gutter
No small crime
Pick up the pieces
Tread a fine line
The next go around
Try not to be blind
[Chorus]
But that’s love
The travesty of love
That’s love
The travesty of love
And you can’t get enough
It’s never, never, never enough, oooh-oooh-oooh
[Outro]
You told me you were leavin’
I told you, told you just go
You told me you don’t love me anymore
I said, I told you, I told you so
I told you so..
Ooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh, Oooooh-ooooh

@HummerWisdom - catchy chorus. you should have different chords or chord progression in the chorus to make it stand out.

@bhengen Thank you and agreed.

Has a kind of rap feel to the lyrics so your gonna need some kind of bouncy music to carry it.

@sidshovel hmmm. I'll give it some thought however, I really liked the way this track went along with it as I wrote much of it to the track. Nice to know it can go another way, thanks.

I can tell what you're trying to achieve here and I really like it. If I had the time, I'd put together a backing track with as many real instruments as possible and then go for a really gritty vocal and a big guitar solo. I can hear the vocal melody straight away.
Forgive me, I've got too much on just now so I won't volunteer, but there's a great song in the making here.

@ChrisPrice Thank you for the high compliment. Yeah, I think it needs to be more a power ballad?
Anyway, I appreciate your keen insight and suggestions,
Renee

I can't wait to hear this one. I'm getting a Gloria Gaynor vibe (I Will Survive).

I love your intro! It sets up a dynamic tension right from the get go. No mucking about we are into the heart of it!
I like "The travesty of love" that's such an evocative line, but I think you need to explain/justify it next in the chorus. Maybe:
But that’s love
The travesty of love
Promises so much
And you can’t get enough
It’s never, never, never enough, oooh-oooh-oooh
I like the way you are using short lines as well. Gives it a "words don't count much" feeling, almost brutal.
And the outro to bookend it.
This is not rap. It's rock with screeching guitar solos.
I think this is really good Renee. One of your best.

@RainyDayMan I LOVE what you did with the chorus!! Yes, it gives it full justification!! Will be using it or something like it and thank you, Owen!

@RainyDayMan THANK YOU so much!! Used your suggestions for the Chorus; also extended the chorus with a different (much better, in my opinion) backing track, although I miss that Dm vs the Am in this version.
The only thing I lost was the 'bookend' outro you liked because backing track was too short. But on the other hand, added 2 Pre-Choruses which I didn't have before!!
What are your thoughts, Owen? Better?
Thanks a million - You ROCK!!!

Good job Renee! Feels like an improvement to me. I like the new chorus, and the pre-choruses too. This line really jumped out at me:
I’m takin’ off, takin’ off the noose
I like how "tak'in off" can mean leaving, as well as being the start of the longer phrase. And "noose" is such as strong image.
I think the new backing track works fine. The mood is the same even if the chord sequence is slightly different.
It would probably benefit from a little change up somewhere along the line, but you can only work with what's in the backing track!
Solid track! 😀

A catchy tune. I really like everything about Travesty of Love. It's bitter/sweet, love is a dice roll.
Nice song. Keep up the great work!

Thank you both so much for your honest assessment!
