Best chair for music production?

Is there a specific chair that's most loved by music producers?

Or one you use and would recommend?

My current chair is literally almost a 90 degree "L" shaped hard chair with almost no padding and needless to say, it's very uncomfortable. Looking to up my chair and desk game.

I know Herman Miller chairs are amazing, although way out of my budget. I'd buy one used, but I'm currently living in Mexico, I've seen some of them on Facebook Marketplace, but they're still around $1000 USD.

  • Personally I use an office chair with adjustable height, tilt etc. It's not top of the range, but I spend a lot of time in it, so felt it was worthwhile investment to get some ergonomics. It was around $AU400 from just an ordinary office supplies chain.

  • Yeah..the chair thing is, err, I nearly said a pain in the a@@@ !! 😂 I have a quite impressive looking computer chair which is great, but I actually prefer my drum stool. That way I can grab a guitar and there's nothing in the way. It's all to do with the height and angle you work with as well. Being comfortable is crucial.

  • I know what you mean Chris! I like to use a wireless transmitter between the guitar and the audio interface for a similar reason, just to avoid tangles and make it all more convenient. Nothing to do with chairs, but something to do with set up at least! 😉

  • Yes, going wireless is something I really must get around to. The tangle of cables has nearly up-ended me a time or two! I must check out ebay.

Thanks @RainyDayMan I agree. I was looking at a chair from a local supplier for around that much, I might go for that.

Does yours have the side-arms? I removed mine at my old place, as I found they got in the way when playing guitar, etc.

PS - what wireless transmitter do you use for your guitar? Do you find that it lowers sound quality in your recordings?

  • The side-arms also drove me crazy on my old setup, I just unscrewed them. In general I don't like arm-rests, even in my car I always put them up. Claustrophobic I guess.

Have you tried removing the side-arms off yours?

  • No side arms on mine. They are enough of a nuisance just in an office, but with musical instruments, etc they are just awful.

I use a brand of wireless transmitter called Crossfire, but there are plenty to choose from, and nothing remarkable about that brand. Just what seemed reasonable value at the time. I've been quite happy with the results, similar to a built in pick up. Tonally different from microphones on an acoustic.
