How Much More Can People Take?

Trying a little mid-tempo bluegrass(ish) for a change. Any feedback is much appreciated. Rhyme scheme appears to be a bit loose. But in this case, I sort of like it.

HOW MUCH MORE CAN PEOPLE TAKE?

[Verse 1]

Well, here we go

Here we go again

This ol’ world is not your friend

Not your friend

[Chorus 1]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

How much more can people take?

[Verse 2]

More viruses coming

Or so they say

More lockdowns coming

Need a getaway

Need a getaway

[Chorus 1]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

How much more can people take?

[Verse 3]

Another storm coming

She’s on her way

People boarding up windows

Not too much to say

Never too much to say

[Chorus/Music]

[Verse 4]

Another war coming

How many more must die?

Brothers and sisters

Mothers left to cry

Mothers left to cry

[Chorus 2]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Before I break

How much more can people take?

[Verse 5]

This used to be

A beautiful place

The Land of Milk and Honey

Has become a disgrace

Laughing in God’s face

[Chorus/Music]

[Chorus 1]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

How much more can people take?

[Verse 6]

‘Cuz here we go

Here we go again

This ol’ world, she’s not your friend

No, she’s not your friend

[Chorus 2]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Before I break

How much more can people take?

[Chorus 3]

Don’t know how much more

Of this I can take

Don’t know how much more

Fun of this I can make

How much more can people take?

Good bar song , are viruses still a threat ? I don't follow the news much

  • I like the style and rhythm. And the rhyming feels pretty natural, I didn't hear any issues there.

I'd prefer a little more variation between the chorus and the verse just to break things up a bit more. It's a longish song and you don't want anyone tuning out!

  • @ElvisNash yeah, seems the psychopaths are trying to push the Bird Flu aka Avian Influenza aka H1-something-or-other. They claim not only other animals have been affected, but people. B.S. viruses are most certainly in their bag of tricks to come.

Anyway, thanks so much; I'll take 'bar song' as a compliment!

  • @RainyDayMan based on your feedback, I re-recorded the song using a backing track from YouTube. Same chords but more uptempo and not nearly as long; chopped about 1 minute off! Thanks for your help, Renee

  • I like the new length. It feels like you've still got the same message across, but in less words.

How was it using the backing track? Do you like the result? Was it as much fun?

@RainyDayMan yes! It was loads of fun using the backing track! The only thing, you're limited to the chord progression (which is probably a good thing in my case) 😜 and the length of the song. Some backing tracks work out fine while others don't. I've never been in a band so playing along with music is a real treat for me. So far as the result, yes, I'm happy with it. It sure beats hearing my sloppy guitar! Thank you for asking!

I don't watch the news , unless I wanted to write a political song , that's going to happen lol. I did watch a show on a 10 year old going to college , talk about giving me an inferior complex for a hour lol.

If Woody Guthrie were here, he'd tip his hat to you.

  • @Cove while I doubt that to be true, it's a very nice compliment and much appreciated. Thank you.
